Life-long Learning

Gr8 Learning Resources: I “heart” I

After taking a break from blogging to deal with life (and some other stuff I’ll be posting about in a later post) I’m finally ready to get back in my blogger seat and get back to posting!

I’ve decided to start a series of great learning resources to keep your kids learning over the summer… and prevent the summer slide. (Kids that aren’t learning over the summer loose gains they’ve made over the past year!)

Gr8 Math Videos for Upper Elementary and Middle School Kids!

First off, I just wanted to share some really cool upper-elementary through middle-school friendly math videos from PBS Learning Media called “I <3 Math“.

I really ENJOY watching them with my kids. The graphics are super cool, they feature a purple-haired girl with glasses (AWESOME) and they use examples that are humorous and high-interest for tweens. Some examples include: electric guitars, roller-coasters and space ninjas!
Check out two of my favorites by clicking the titles below:

I <3 Math: Percent as a Rate

A presentation of multistep ratio and percent problems to illustrate the concept of percent as a rate. This I <3 Math episode uses real-world comparisons to convert rates into equivalent percentages.
