SHUT DOWN the Misleading GradeEdge.com High School Quality Web Site
The GradeEdge.com site is still up despite comments from me and several others from the PPS-SF community explaining our concerns that the high school ranking site harms many excellent public high schools in our city.
Bad Data
GradeEdge is using data based on old data (2013). It doesn’t explain where data comes from or how scores are calculated. This is misleading and irresponsible!
Lack of Credibility
On their website they state: “We are a group of education experts and advocates, data scientists, teachers and parents.”
This is misleading as well. The CEO is living in Palo Alto California, and the company is based in Seattle, WA. Marketing themselves as local parents in SF is misleading. And as somewhat of an education data expert myself, nowhere do I see any indication that these folks know anything about how to use or analyze educational data.
Profit at What Expense?
From all I can gather, this is just another for-profit company with a lot more experience in the tech sector than the education sector. Their profit, will likely come at the expense of our hardest hit public schools.
